Ask any Chinese teacher the hardest thing to get students to do, and chances are the answer will be “Tones!” This workshop discusses the nature of tones and types of tone errors, and introduces multimodal techniques that apply multiple intelligences to the learning and performance of tones in Mandarin Chinese, including directional gestures, tonal spelling, color coding and other aids to tonal recall.
